Asheville School Faculty Member Varghese Alexander Earns 2019 DiversityIS Leadership in Diversity Award

DiversityIS magazine, which focuses on diversity and inclusion in K-12 independent schools, recognized Asheville School Math Instructor Varghese Alexander with the 2019 Leadership in Diversity Award.

According to a write-up in the 2019 Summer Issue, “The 2019 DiversityIS Leadership in Diversity Award is a recognition of individuals from K-12 independent schools who encourage and support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students and employees and exhibit true leadership for diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Alexander, who regularly advocates for underrepresented students, was recognized for his work both at Asheville School and in the larger Asheville community.

Alexander has worked at Asheville School for several years as the Director of Community Pluralism. He sponsors the Multicultural Club, a student club that helps to create a space for underrepresented students at Asheville School. He also works with Asheville School students and alumni to run Camp Good Trouble, a free summer camp for underserved elementary school students in Asheville.

Join us in wishing Varghese Alexander congratulations on this award! You can read the DiversityIS Summer Issue here.
