Declan Mettee is Ready to Lead the Blues

Asheville School junior Declan Mettee is ready to lead the Blues Varsity Boys Soccer Team this fall. Last year, he broke the Blues’ season goals record, scoring an impressive 27 goals during gameplay.

Mettee trained with the Asheville City Academy team this summer, and he played in one of the men’s first team games at Memorial Stadium.

This July, Mettee traveled to Alabama to participate in the 2019 Olympic Development Program (ODP) South Region Camp. There, he was selected as one of the 30 athletes that make up the 2019 Boys South Region Pool with US Youth Soccer ODP Region III. This pool of players is used to select the Region Team, which competes in domestic and international matches throughout the coming year.

Athletic Director Carl Boland says Mettee’s talent and commitment make him a stand-out athlete. “Declan has the combination of raw athleticism, skill and drive to play and compete at a high level,” said Boland. “With his various experiences this summer and the successes he enjoyed last season, Declan is poised to lead his team to an outstanding season for the Blues this fall.”
